Feeling stuck and struggling in life is not nice, in fact its rather shite! Even though its shite, lots of people live Ground Hog day, doing the same thing every single day and it has become normal. They have become immune to the uncomfortable feelings and life lacks real meaning or a sense of purpose. If challenged they will justify their life and actions as normal, I’m okay and doing what's expected.
The thing is, we are not fulfilled when we are not living the life we really desire. Not being true to ourselves is creating discomfort, emotional pain and ultimately it creates illness. In his book ‘Mans search for Meaning’ Vicktor Frankel spoke about how the ones who held a meaning for their life whilst going through the horrors of the holocaust camps survived, and those who lacked any meaning or purpose didn’t. He also found that when depressed clients found meaning and a purpose in their despair they would come out of their depression as they now had something to live for.
Struggle stops us achieving our passions and dreams in life, it’s not a nice energy to be in.
We’ve become distracted, lost in the world of working, pleasing, striving, succeeding and earning, all have become normal activity. We are lost and absorbed in a world of doing things, the need to achieve and feel good, seeking happiness from extrinsic stimulus but few have learnt that happiness, peace, contentedness and love all come from within us. And there hangs one of the biggest illusions for humanity, seeking externally for something that is inside of them!
This miss guided belief stimulates a mindset of lack so we seek more, more confidence, more money, more friends, more attention, more self-worth, more love and more of anything that will help us feel good!
We learn how to cope with the uncomfortable emotions that are a constant reminder that what we truly want is not being realised, we are out of balance, off course and it hurts! So, we find coping strategies so not to feel or experience this emotional energy. We learn how to distract ourselves through many mediums and addictions. From the constant use of alcohol, gambling, socialising or drugs, to the constant addiction of social media, doing things and the creating life dramas that envelop us, the need for power, adoration, attention and material stuff! It is a game, we’re ignoring the elephant in the room, and that’s, we are not being true to who we are, we are not being true to ourselves!
The reason this is happening is we’re not following a life doing the things that give joy, happiness and fulfillment. Instead we’re doing things that give pain and strife, problems, ill health and wondering what’s going on. It’s the life that seems to have been etched out for and so we believe that’s what we have to do, to get on in life, society and exist. Most people are so off kilter with who they are and what they bring to the world, it’s causing huge amounts of stress and ill health. It’s affecting both their biology and their psychology. So much mental health challenges being highlighted and it’s getting more prevalent as people struggle to survive in a global mentality that seemingly does not care as long as it has what it wants. If you are ill, then you are a casualty of the system, it will drop you and look for others to fill you place.
We are taught to work hard, push, make it happen, be driven, get rewards and do more, don’t stop! Yes, doing that stuff will get results but most are not motivated to follow this approach and those who are tend to become stressed, work focused and after many years of pushing have wellbeing challenges. They may have the rewards and trappings of their endeavours but at what cost to them and those around them. Success is not about how much you have but who you are as a person. Many chase their rainbow but never find their Shangri-la.
It takes courage to change the mind position we have held for more years. It takes courage to accept where we are and to make the decision to let go and open the doors to what it is, we truly desire and to be ourselves. To be that, we have to let go of pleasing others and face our fears of failure, not good enough or dis-pleasing others. We have to become open to what has been on our heart for years, that quiet inner voice of our intuition showing us the way that we have constantly ignored it. It’s taking action and finding those who will be our ‘cheer leaders’, those who won’t judge us for who we are and what we want to do. Yes, it takes courage and that’s why, so few people are living, doing what they love and being themselves. Few are living their passions and dreams because the fear of change is far greater than what they hold dear inside!
So, what excuses and dramas are you using to stay stuck in your Ground Hog day and are you going to do something about it or continue the drama and pain?
